We message other people on a daily basis, some of us still use SMS to connect with people, and some depend on various messaging applications we can find in various app stores these days. Several of these messaging services are cross-platform, which makes the whole process far easier.  Now, you have lots of such applications available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, from WhatsApp, Viber, Skype, all the way to Facebook Messenger, and many others.

With the latest disclosures, one thing is for sure that your phone calls and messaging are not protected. At any given time a government agency, a hacker or some suspicious person could be interfering to your conversations without your conscience. One thing that you can do to save yourself from such a situation is to get an encrypted phone, which costs a lot of money. However if you are a smartphone user an app called Signal Private Messenger can change things for you with its ability to encrypt both incoming and outgoing calls and SMS.

Signal is totally free and open source encrypted voice calling and instant messaging application for both Android and iOS. Signal open source app replaces your regular SMS messenger app, allowing you to send and receive SMS messages as normal, except that when texting non-Signal users in your contact list, all messages are automatically encrypted. It uses advanced end-to-end encryption protocols to secure all communications to other Signal users. Signal messenger can be used to send and receive encrypted instant messages, group messages, attachments and media messages. Users can independently verify the identity of their messaging correspondents by comparing key fingerprints out-of-band.

Signal provides maximum privacy to both Android and iOS users enabling them to make an encrypted call for absolutely no charge. It provides end-to-end encryption using the modern ZRTP encryption protocol. The calls are made through WiFi or cellular data and not your mobile network. When texting non-Signal users you are given the option to invite them to Signal, or can only send a message as normal via (unencrypted) SMS.

Signal Private Messenger is a consistent application that put a layer of security on top. This application provides privacy for every message you send. The application has many features you will find on other chatting services, like group messaging, for example. Other than the encryption part, this app functions as it should, it’s fast and reliable while it also follows the material design guidelines regarding the design.

While calling a person from your contacts, integrity of the data channel is checked, users at both ends will receive a pair of words that they have to confirm and send. If the words match, the connection is very much secure and is encrypted.

If it doesn’t, better hang up your call and try again. The same procedure is repeated when you start chatting with a new contact. The codes should match, and it does most of the time, ensuring an encrypted, secure mode of communication. The rest of the features of the app are similar to other top rated instant messengers. You can prefer to chat, send media files, call someone, etc. by selecting your desired options from a neat and clean interface. The calls made via Signal app are always crystal clear without any noise or interference, provided you have a reasonably good internet connection and speed. There are push notifications to remind you of any updates or chats while you are on the move. Above all, everything in the application is free without any adverts or illegal pop-ups.

How to install Signal Private Messenger

You can easily get and install the Signal Private Messenger apk file from the TorrApk Store, we will maintain it always updated to the latest version. In alternative you can get it from Google Play.  If you are interested in accessing the source code or in giving your contribution to the open source project you can visit the Signal GitHub Page.

Bottom Line

Signal is the easiest and efficient way to send encrypted communications on a smartphone either Android or iOS. Even without taking its privacy and security benefits into concern, Signal makes an exceptional SMS/MMS client that does an excellent job of replacing the one that came with your phone. It is a complete replacement for your existing SMS app letting you sends unencrypted messages to non-Signal users, and even makes encrypted VoIP calls. In addition to your favorite chat features, the added security and privacy should make it one of the most wanted instant messaging or calling applications for smartphone users.
