The strange case of apps to see through clothes... I don’t get it!
A few months ago I noticed that among the most searched apps on TorrApk there are those who make you “see through clothes”. I used quotation marks for a reason: these apps are just a joke. Let’s be serious, there’s no app able to peek under someone’s clothes!

However, since the statistics were right there in front of me, I decided to write a post to explain how these apps were completely useless, in hope to make clear that it is just a big joke.
Three months later, the article is still one of the most read on the website, and it’s much more popular than some more interesting posts such as those addressing security or privacy on the smartphones. Additionally, most users land on the article page because they’re searching for one of these X-ray apps.
It is quite disappointing; writing an article on how a system to guarantee privacy such as Tor works is much more difficult and time consuming than writing something about a joke-app that doesn’t do what promised. It’s upsetting to see how results are inversely proportioned to the effort that went on writing the article.
Help me understand
At this point you might be wondering why I decided to write a third article on the topic:
-
The first reason is that I believe this article is going to be more popular than most posts on the blog, just like the previous ones. Therefore, I would like to inform the readers that on this blog we talk about other interesting, contemporary topics, and I hope that you’ll start following us for this reason.
-
The second reason is that I am curious to know what users expect to find when they type “apps to see through clothes” on Google. Do they really think they could peek under their friends’ clothes or they know it’s just a joke?
And if they know it’s a joke, did they ever fool anyone? I mean: does it work as a joke?
I am serious; I would really like to know!
If you came to this page because you were looking for this type of app, please don’t leave without answering to my question in the comments.
Even if you’re only an occasional reader, but you have something to say to dispel my doubts, please write me and help me to understand!
